ENVD 4365 Introduction to Digital Fabrication

Project: StrawWall - Full-scale Material Research Using Materials Found From Landfill

Student: Omar Hason, Kyle Wong, Jarad Christianson

Outcomes:

Straw Walls are studies of functional surfaces made from ultra-cheap, opportunistic materials such as discarded plastics found on beaches and landfills.

The study encourages an integrated design experience that operates within the realm of digital fabrication logic and generates a discussion of ideas regarding the functionality of a singular material, less than 1/16” in thickness. It encourages the employment of design experience that mediates a diverse relationship between material and process. The design considerations focus on found material, locating material options, working with a unique system that is specific to the found material, using cheap, opportunistic, discarded material strategies.
